Imagine a world where the villages of humans were scattered along mountaintops, and the world below was completely blocked off by an impassible wall of clouds. In a world like that, air travel would precede both land and sea. This is the kind of world that Aero Empire is set in. In this world, the player can rise the ranks, from a lowly gunner manning a turret aboard an airship, to the commander of a nation, controlling the tides of war and the armies of that nation. With the ability to talk to and influence your fellow coworkers and superiors, you can also perform a rebellion or coup d'etat, breaking free and taking control of your own nation. Aero Empire is a cross genre game, incorporating elements of role playing games, shooters, flight simulators, real time strategy and tactics. The world is populated with thousands of AI with their own desires and personalities, creating a dynamic and ever changing world.

Weapons

Turrets – Turrets are weapons on a pivot that can target enemies from most directions. Their accuracy and range of motion make them perfect for pinpoint attacks and targeting fast moving craft like gyros. The basic structure of most turrets is the same, however, the weapon and payload type can vary greatly.

Turret Types:

  • Sling Type – Sling type turrets do not require any fuel or gunpowder to launch projectiles. Instead, they use string tension and other forces to propel the payload towards its target. Sling type turrets typically resemble ballistas, and are cheap to produce and operate.
  • Gunpowder Type – Gunpowder type turrets ignite gunpowder inside a barrel to launch projectiles at high speeds towards the target. These types of turrets resemble cannons, and can put a lot of force behind the projectile. However, they are more expensive to produce and operate, as each launch requires gunpowder.
  • Launcher Type – Launcher type turrets do not have any mechanism for propelling a projectile. Instead, it relies on the propulsion of the projectile itself to fire. The launcher type is just a container on a pivot, and so is cheaper to produce than the other two types of turrets. However, the projectiles need to have their own form of propulsion, so are much more expensive to operate.

Projectile Types:

  • Blunt Type – Blunt type projectiles are nothing but large, blunt objects. They rely on their mass and momentum to deal heavy blunt damage, and are cheap to produce. However, they rely on the turret to launch them, and are ineffective against heavy armor. Examples of blunt type projectiles are cannonballs and rocks.
  • Piercing Type – Piercing type projectiles are similar to blunt type, however they are much smaller and are designed to pierce through armor. The force and momentum behind a piercing type projectile cannot compare to that of a blunt type, but it is far more effective against heavy armor. Examples of piercing type projectiles are bolts and harpoons.
  • Flaming Type – Flaming type projectiles can be similar to either blunt or piercing type projectiles, however contain a substance like greek fire that can ignite upon launch or impact. This allows the projectile to deal fire damage as well as blunt or piercing damage, which can be very effective against wood and provisions.
  • Explosive Type – Explosive projectiles contain a payload in them that causes a considerable explosion and shock upon impact. The explosion produced deals considerable damage to both wood and armor, and also has an area of effect. However, explosive type projectiles are considerably more expensive than other projectile types.
  • Propulsion Type – Propulsion type projectiles are similar to explosive type, except they also contain their own propulsion system that allows them to gain momentum and gives them the largest range of all projectiles. The payloads of propulsion type projectiles vary, but are typically smaller than explosive types. Examples of propulsion type projectiles are torpedoes (large, expensive) and rockets (small, mass produced).
  • Shrapnel Type – Shrapnel type projectiles are similar to explosive type, except their payload consists of many small pieces of metal and shrapnel, allowing for a large spread of damage. These projectiles typically explode before impact, propelling the large quantities of shrapnel out in all directions, making it very effective against large groups. However, the individual damage of each piece of shrapnel is small.

Cannons – Cannons are similar to Gunpowder turrets, except they have a very limited firing arc, and depend on the position of the airship to line up a shot. Because they do not require the pivoting turret structure, however, they are cheaper than turrets to produce and can handle larger and more damaging projectiles.

Gravity Bombs – Bombs are similar to explosive type projectiles, however they are dropped from artillery airships that fly high above the battlefield. Since they do not need to be launched, they are cheap and can contain a large payload. However, they are more difficult to aim, and require quantity to hit targets.

Torpedoes – Torpedoes are bombs that have their own propulsion system, which allows them to have larger range and more accuracy. However, their payloads are typically smaller than gravity bombs and they are more expensive to produce.
