Aero Empire

Aerosphere Studios - Cumulonimbus Engine - Coming late 2010 / early 2011

Imagine a world where the villages of humans were scattered along mountaintops, and the world below was completely blocked off by an impassible wall of clouds. In a world like that, air travel would precede both land and sea. This is the kind of world that Aero Empire is set in. In this world, the player can rise the ranks, from a lowly gunner manning a turret aboard an airship, to the commander of a nation, controlling the tides of war and the armies of that nation. With the ability to talk to and influence your fellow coworkers and superiors, you can also perform a rebellion or coup d'etat, breaking free and taking control of your own nation. Aero Empire is a cross genre game, incorporating elements of role playing games, shooters, flight simulators, real time strategy and tactics. The world is populated with thousands of AI with their own desires and personalities, creating a dynamic and ever changing world.

Research and Upgrades

Research and upgrades are handled in towns and cities by the mayor. However, like building projects, the Admiral can allocate national resources to increase research speed and direct research along the different areas. Research is a continuous action; there is no end to research, and new improvements will slowly be developed over time even without the support of the national budget.

In Aero Empire, nations know the basic theory behind all units and upgrades in the game and can start building any unit or upgrade they desire. However, the cost, time to build and effectiveness of the produced unit can vary greatly depending on the status of research. While theoretically you can build giant airships using manual labor, the time it would take to complete would be phenomenal and the quality would be poor without the support of new inventions and techniques.

There are four general areas of research in Aero Empire:

  • Pyrotechnics research – related to the development of combustibles. Improvements affect the damage of explosive and flame weapons, the range of weapons shot using gunpowder, and the efficiency and power of engines which use combustible fuel.
  • Mechanization research – related to steam engines and its many applications. Improvements include better steam engine designs, material production, mining, farming equipment, and manufacturing.
  • Architectural research – related to the construction and design of buildings and airship hulls. Improvements affect the efficiency and integrity of buildings and airships, and allow for the sound production of larger structures.
  • Economics research – related to the economic policies and organization of the nation. Improvements increase city growth, stability and population happiness, as well as improving educational institutions. Educational institutions affect research efficiency and training for officers and officials.
