Aero Empire

Aerosphere Studios - Cumulonimbus Engine - Coming late 2010 / early 2011

Imagine a world where the villages of humans were scattered along mountaintops, and the world below was completely blocked off by an impassible wall of clouds. In a world like that, air travel would precede both land and sea. This is the kind of world that Aero Empire is set in. In this world, the player can rise the ranks, from a lowly gunner manning a turret aboard an airship, to the commander of a nation, controlling the tides of war and the armies of that nation. With the ability to talk to and influence your fellow coworkers and superiors, you can also perform a rebellion or coup d'etat, breaking free and taking control of your own nation. Aero Empire is a cross genre game, incorporating elements of role playing games, shooters, flight simulators, real time strategy and tactics. The world is populated with thousands of AI with their own desires and personalities, creating a dynamic and ever changing world.

Cities

Towns and cities are managed by mayors, who for the initial release are NPCs only. Players will also be able to become mayors in future releases. Mayors control resource management, building projects, and citizen management for their town/city. Admirals control national funds, and can give additional resources to some towns, and tax away resources from others. Additionally, admirals can request building projects and draft citizens into the army, although it is up to the mayor to manage and oversee the specified projects.

Like most aspects of the game – orders are given from above, but it is up to the individual whether to follow those orders or not, and what the best way to achieve the specified orders are. Mayors can also decide when they want to execute the ordered building projects (if ever), and how they wish to use the national resources given to them for that project. However, a mayor who disobeys orders without good reason will have to report to the admiral, and could be fined or fired.

Cities can have the following types of buildings:

  • Residence Buildings – house citizens.
  • Farms – grow crops and raise animals.
  • Lumberyards – collect, manage and process wood.
  • Mines – collect, manage and process ores and fuel from inside the mountain.
  • Construction Yards – build airships and equipment of different types and sizes.
  • Docks – manage airship docking and traffic, civilian immigration and emigration, and also double as lookouts for enemy airships.
  • Markets – handle trading and provide resources and services to civilians.
  • City Centers – manage governmental affairs (both internal and external), and also provide public services like schools and religious centers.

Cities provide vital servicing and refueling for traveling airships, and the city centers have lists of missions, job postings, and serve as a communications outpost for the capitol.
